photo 1 Feb im in amman!
for the next few days we all have the luxury of slow wireless connection in the hotel and after that, in our homestays, it is not likely that we will. there are internet cafes nearby though.
since i have internet and a minute to write, i’d like to start with…these are the kindest people ever! they want to make you feel right at home.
secondly, there is very little grass. i was thinking this in my head when a local said aloud “grass is impractical.” then i thought about how we spend so much time and money working to make grass green and lushious only to cut it down with a machine when it begins to grow.
third. there is a lot of beige here. the stone buildings and the food-hummus, baba ganoush, the pita, and tahini namely.
fourth. there is big time water scarity here. short showers, water is expensive! and off color!
people smoke constantly here. from a really young age. and they drive horribly—even compared to me, and there are many traffic accidents. despite these things the average lifespan here in jordan surpasses an average american by 3.5 months. its something like 78.4 compared to 78.1.
people here go out of their way to help each other out. i wonder if thats part of it..
